The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, the state’s major aquatic and FINA accredited pool, is operated by the YMCA.
The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre is the state’s major aquatic centre and caters for:
- pre-school and school age users
- older adults
- clubs and community groups
- community and corporate hirer groups
- people with disabilities
- the general community.
The building of the centre was a partnership between the Commonwealth Government, State Government and City of Marion.
The government sought requests for proposals in late 2010, and on 18th March 2011, appointed the YMCA to manage the facility shortly before opening.
This left five weeks before the centre was due to open! The challenge was added to with the 2011 Australian Age Swimming Championships, scheduled to be conducted on day one.
The YMCA was able to draw on our extensive resources from around the country and successfully prepare for the facility’s opening on 18 April 2011.
Since its first major event, the 2011 Australian Age Swimming Championships, the YMCA has continually demonstrated its ability to host world-class events at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre – and meet ongoing community needs.
The YMCA regularly runs major swimming events, operates the centre’s aquatic facilities and a health club, and delivers a wide variety of aquatic activities and programs for users. The crèche is popular for members with families – and children!
After just three months of operation, the venture had more than 2800 members, getting into a healthier, happier and more connected lifestyle.
