YMCA Victoria has partnered with Sport Australia, Deakin University and the University of Western Australia to establish a daily physical literacy program in YMCA Early Learning Centres. PLAY is a structured physical literacy program that is evidence-based, fun and developmentally appropriate for children aged 3 – 5 years old.

Integrating the University of Western Australia KIDDO program, PLAY will support YMCA educators to build their knowledge and skills to help the children in our centres learn how to run, jump, balance, kick, throw and more, in a fun and engaging way, as well as develop their confidence and motivation to be active.

Researchers from the Institute of Physical Activity and Nutrition at Deakin University will be conducting an evaluation of the program, which will inform the expansion of physical literacy into other YMCA programs for children and young people, including, school camps, out of school hours (OSHC) programs, bush kinder, gymnastics and stadium sports.
