Youth Parliament

Youth Parliament provides young Victorians aged between 16 and 25 with the opportunity to "raise the roof of parliament" on the issues closest to their hearts.
The program provides young people with an opportunity to develop skills in relationship-building, team-work, public speaking, and leadership as well as to have fun.
Participants take part in a 9-day residential training program which culminates in them formally debating bills in the Victorian Parliamentary chambers in the first week of July.
The Victorian Youth Parliament program is run by YMCA Victoria in conjunction with the State Government's Office for Youth and is led by a volunteer Taskforce of 16 past participants, all under the age of 25.

YMCA Victoria Youth Parliament was selected as a finalist in the Young People's Community Participation Award. Four representatives of the volunteer taskforce (Kate Burns, Sarah Brunton, Caiti Metherall and Kieran Ryan) attended the awards held on Sunday 9 May at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre. Program Director Ang Cuy said "it was an honour for the program to be chosen as a finalist for these awards, which celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of outstanding volunteer groups".
