Celebrating the important role of dads and father figures
Every year children in the community are invited to nominate their dad or father figure by writing or drawing about why they are so special to them. Winners are selected at each participating YMCA centre or service.
Nominations are now open!
YMCA Community Father of the Year recognises dads and father figures who may think they’re ordinary, but are in fact extraordinary. To the children in their life, they’re a superhero. Read more about how it all began.
The nominations for the YMCA Community Father of the Year are also considered for the Father’s Day Council of Victoria’s prestigious Victorian Father of the Year Award. A number of Community Fathers have been past winners.
How to nominate:
- Download a copy of the nomination form
- Draw a picture and tell us why your dad is the superhero in your life
- Take your entry into your nearest participating centre
Community Father of the Year winners receive free entry for them and their family to the YMCA Father’s Day Fun Run, this year held on Sunday 3 September.
Nominations for 2017 Community Father of the Year open on Saturday 1 July 2017 and close 4th August 2017

Last year’s Community Father of the Year, Terry Mitropoulos, went on to become the Victorian Father of the Year. His two boys, Jonah and Christos, could not be prouder!
