Community Father of the Year

Community father of the year

Celebrating the important role of fathers.

YMCA Victoria understands families come in all shapes and sizes. This is why we’ve developed programs and services to support and promote the important role that fathers and father figures play.

This is all part of our commitment to building happy and healthy communities.

Community Father of the Year Award

The YMCA Community Father of the Year award recognises dads and father figures who may think they’re ordinary, but are in fact extraordinary.

Every year community members are invited to nominate their father or father figure by writing or drawing about why they are so special to them. Winners will be selected at each participating YMCA centre or service.

The nominations for the YMCA Community Father of the Year are also considered for the Father’s Day Council of Victoria’s prestigious Victorian Father of the Year Award.

In 2016 father of two Terry Mitropoulos was named Victorian Father of the Year. Terry came to the attention of the Victorian Father’s Day Council after he was nominated for the annual YMCA Community Father of the Year at his local YMCA in Eltham. Terry’s story is remarkable!  With his family by his side Terry has overcome significant health problems to remain a steadfast example to his family and wider community. As someone who was told by medical experts that he may never walk again, Terry’s completion of the 5 kilometre course at the inaugural YMCA Father’s Day Fun Run provided inspiration not just to his family but to all Victorians.

Nominations for 2017 Community Father of the Year are currently closed. Nominations will open on the 1st of July 2017.
