YMCA Victoria has conducted a review of our classification of aquatics staff and identified an error in our remuneration of some staff, specifically some swimming teachers and lifeguards. We are committed to back-paying all current and past staff affected and we take full responsibility. We would never intentionally underpay our staff, and we are working through a process to ensure all affected staff are reclassified and back-paid as soon as possible.
All affected current staff will have their classification confirmed and will receive back-pay by 30 June 2017.
YMCA Victoria has been consulting with the relevant union, the Australian Services Union, on this matter. The YMCA Staff Agreement 2015 was negotiated with the Australian Services Union, and approved by the Fair Work Commission.
We are inviting all past YMCA swimming teachers and lifeguards employed from 2011 to contact us via the form below, as they may be owed back-pay for past shifts. The YMCA will reach out directly to past employees using contact details in our systems, however we acknowledge these might not be up to date in some cases. Past staff who believe they may be entitled to back-pay are invited to fill out the form below and we will review your enquiry as part of our process.
We are truly sorry for the impact this has had on those affected.
