The Hon. Jenny Mikakos (centre) meets with the children at the new Mernda YMCA Early Learning Centre.

Yesterday the Hon. Jenny Mikakos MP Minister for Families and Children joined Whittlesea Council and the YMCA to officially open the doors at Mernda YMCA Early Learning Centre.

The $2.4 million centre offers YMCA Children’s Programs-run three and four-year-old kinder sessions, long day care, school holiday programs and Maternal and Child Health services.

Mernda is one of five locations that opened state-of-the art YMCA early learning centres earlier this year on the same site as government primary schools. Torquay YMCA Early Learning Centre will open in October with a focus on nature and outdoor play.

The new early learning centres and facilities are all located in growth corridors where early learning education and childcare services are needed to support Victoria’s booming population.

YMCA is dedicated to supporting these growing communities and providing enriching early learning education and childcare that meets the needs of local families.

All centres are the result of a partnership between Council, YMCA and Arena REIT Management with the support of a $2 million grant from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

New YMCA early learning centres in Epping North, Pakenham, Cranbourne North, Clyde North and Torquay are also part of this project.
