Do you know a dad or father figure who deserves a pat on the back?
Nominations for the YMCA Community Father of the Year are now open.
YMCA Victoria chief executive Peter Burns said the award was a chance for children to stop and reflect on what was going on in their lives and what their dad or father figure meant to them.
Mr Burns encouraged children to nominate father figures such as uncles, brothers, coaches or grandpas.
“You don’t have to be a dad to have a positive impact on children’s lives,” he said.
The YMCA invented Father’s Day and it was first celebrated in 1910 by a YMCA in the USA.
Mr Burns said the world had changed since that first Father’s Day, but the YMCA remained dedicated to supporting and strengthening families – in all their forms.
Nomination forms are available at your local YMCA centre or download the nomination form. Nominations close 3 August 2012.
