We wanted to give you an update on what’s happening with our pools and swimming lessons.
As of Monday 1 June, government restrictions have allowed pools to reopen, with a 20 person limit per enclosed space and three people per lane in order to continue the strict social distancing guidelines we all must adhere to. We are working closely with our council partners to re-open our pools when it is safe and appropriate to do so.
We are excited to share that DHHS have updated their restrictions surrounding swimming lessons: “Supervision is key to swimming pool safety for children. Supervision necessitates physical contact by holding or staying within arms' reach of toddlers and beginner swimmers at all times when in the water, when it is safe and appropriate to do so.”
Whilst YMCA Swimming Lessons are yet to recommence, we are pleased to share with you that when we do recommence swimming lessons, we will be able to do this without physical distancing restrictions in place.
We can now work with our council partners to build a ‘return to Swimming Lessons’ plan. This may take some time as we navigate the easing of government restrictions for our pools as they reopen and ensure we can provide you with the program and the facilities that you know and love. The safety of our families, as well as the safety of our staff, is our highest priority.
We will continue to communicate our progress with you as more Government announcements are made and restrictions ease.
Update Sunday 14 June: the Victorian Government has updated restrictions around the use of change rooms within aquatic and recreation centres there is no longer a limit on how many people can be in each lane of each pool as of the 22 June.
