Y-Solation is back this Friday

Last Friday, we held our first Y-Solation session – a series of Facebook livestreams that aim to keep young people and the community connected throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Our first two sessions, hosted by YMCA employees and volunteers James and Nicole, received an overwhelming amount of support and engagement from young people across Victoria. We want to continue connecting young people with one another and are hosting another two Y-Solation sessions.

Friday 24 April

12:30pm – Yoga with John

Join John for a lunchtime yoga session that will keep you grounded and help you reconnect with your body. You can expect a playful, informative and exploratory yoga class from the comfort of your own home.

John teaches yoga twice a week at Jimmy’s Youth Wellbeing Sanctuary, a youth space managed by YMCA Peninsula Youth Services. To help him stay connected during lockdown, he immerses himself in nature, is raising a 12-week old puppy called Disco and spending quality time with his family. His tip for young people feeling disconnected is take it one day at a time and to treat yourself to a sleep in every now and then.

6pm – Trivia with Declan

Missing your weekly night trivia? Us too. That’s why Declan plans to keep you entertained this Friday night with a few rounds of online trivia. He will be asking the questions via Kahoot, so make sure you download the app on your phone before joining in. If you don’t want to download the app, you can still join in by answering the questions in the livestream comments.

Declan has been volunteering with the Y since 2017 and has been staying connected with his fellow volunteers via a range of online meetings and activities. He thinks that there is no right or wrong way to stay connected during this time, and that it’s ok to connect with friends and family as much or as little as you like.

Both sessions will be livestreamed via the YMCA Victoria Facebook page.
