How to get your lifeguard qualifications
Want to become a pool lifeguard with the Y but not sure where to start?
If you are 16 years or older you can enrol to get the relevant qualifications and skillset to work as a pool lifeguard with the Y this summer.
What qualifications do I need?
Pool Lifeguards with the YMCA need to hold current:
- Pool Lifeguard qualifications
- First Aid (HLTAID011)
How to get your qualifications
There are a number of providers you can go through to get your Pool Lifeguard qualifications, but we recommend Life Saving Victoria (LSV).
Life Saving Victoria is an initiative of the Royal Life Saving Society Australia Victoria Branch and Surf Life Saving Victoria. LSV is the peak for water safety and the premium provider of Pool Lifeguard courses in Victoria.

Training courses
We value our people and providing training is one of the ways we show our commitment to their ongoing growth and career development. We provide training in the areas of leadership, professional development and occupational health and safety.
Through our many partnerships, we have a large range of courses available to staff - from certificates to professional development and accredited courses. You'll be sure to find a course relevant to your career at the Y.
If you'd like to become qualified in aquatics and/or first aid but aren't a Y employee, we encourage you to enrol through Lifesaving Victoria.

By submitting your application and/or joining the YMCA Victoria Talent Community, you are agreeing to your personal information being used as outlined in the following statement. Please note that your application (and other personal information that we collect during the recruitment
process) may also be shared with other YMCA Victoria group entities who:- are involved in the decision-making process for the role that you have applied for; or
- provide general administrative, IT and other support services for the YMCA Victoria group.
By submitting your application and/or joining the Talent Community, you will be asked to provide personal details, including contact details and application information. If you don't provide any of the

We may also collect demographic information about you, with your consent, for the purposes of our internal diversity and inclusion analysis. This personal information is not used to assess your suitability for employment with us.
Please be aware that YMCA Victoria requires employees in certain roles to hold current Working with Children Checks. YMCA Victoria also requires National Police Checks. You may be asked to provide evidence of current Working with Children Check and National Police Checks as part of the application and recruitment process, and during the course of your employment (if you are successful). If you are successful in obtaining a position, your personal information will form part of your employment record and we may also:
- collect further details regarding any health issues or requirements relevant to your role (e.g. pre-existing injuries, allergies, disabilities), so that we can comply with OH&S laws,

- ask you to provide us with your tax file number (TFN).
