We believe in the power of inspired young people.
The Y started out with a simple belief: that through mutual support, the community could gain renewed strength in body, mind and spirit. Although back in the early days the Y’s focus was on the welfare of young men (today’s Y is inclusive of all genders, races and religions), that simple belief of supporting and empowering young people still remains.
Global research conducted by the World YMCA in 2016 found that young people around the world are most concerned about the environment, youth under and unemployment and human rights. We want to create spaces for young people to develop, grow and be inspired to make an impact in their lives and on the issues that matter to them.
We currently run a number of youth programs including YMCA ReBuild, YMCA Evolve, Youth Parliament and Press Gallery, Skate Clinics, Youth for Causes and UNO-Y. And with mental health as the top concern for young people in Australia, these programs aim to build strength and resilience.
Alongside our youth programs, our early learning, health and wellness and camp facilities are designed to help young people throughout life transitions and empower them through education, healthy living and physical activity.
