While the long-term impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the community are still unknown, we know that the lives of many young Australians will never be the same. Along with social isolation, young people are facing loss of employment, financial insecurity and increased anxiety about the future. Our services for young people and the communities that support them have never been more important. We want to continue providing opportunities for young people to be heard, be supported and most importantly stay connected.
With Virtual Y, the YMCA wants to ensure young people can continue to learn and grow, stay physically active, increase their wellbeing and stay engaged with one another. Although we are launching the first phase of Virtual Y with programming specifically designed with young people in mind, other members of the community will find beneficial modules suited to them.
As a not-for-profit organisation that has been serving Victorian communities since 1853, it’s important for us to continue supporting our customers across recreation, aquatics, camps, early learning, disability services and action sports. Our work is driven by our belief in inspired young people, and each day our customers support the benevolent work we do to help young people connect with their communities, while empowering them through education, healthy living and physical activity.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be adding additional products and services to the platform that will serve the current needs of the entire community, including modules delivered through livestreams, tutorials and training sessions, challenges, competitions and interactive group sessions.
