Every year, Y Victoria celebrates the Mother of the Year and Father of the Year award to mother figures and father figures who have contributed and made a positive impact in their communities.

Victorian Father of the Year

Since 1956 the Victorian Father of the Year award has recognised Victorian dads and father figures who make a positive and profound contribution to their community. The award is about everyday people who make a difference.

Originally founded by the former Victorian Father’s Day Council and it was managed by this dedicated committee for over 60 years.

In 2006, Y Victoria began supporting the award’s administration and promoting the award through numerous community services.

Today, members of the former Victorian Father’s Day Council have joined YMCA representatives to form the volunteer Parent Day Committee. This committee supports the governance of both the Victorian Father of the Year award and the new Victorian Mother of the Year award.

Victorian Mother of the Year

Starting in 2024, the Y Victoria Mother of the Year Award is an initiative to celebrate the contribution mums make every day.

We aim to spotlight those who break norms and redefine parenting and hope to encourage a new appreciation of motherhood.

Mums and mother figures are all around us, not only in our families but in our local community groups, schools and workplaces. They build emotional connections, inspire dreams, resilience and character, teaching empathy and compassion, and guiding young people on the journey to independence.

It's about celebrating the mothers who inspire young people, harness their potential and encourage growth for them to become leaders of tomorrow.
