Why work at the Y?
Great people
We look for inclusive people with a zest for life whose positive and vibrant approach inspires those around them. People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome, especially people with life experience. We support the employment of disadvantaged and young people, and ensure that everyone can discover a career full of diversity at the Y.
With YMCA Victoria, you'll work with colleagues who have a shared passion for making a difference and transforming communities for the better. When you join us, you’ll become a valuable member of our team. We offer a range of benefits to improve your wellbeing and personal development.
Varied roles
We have more than 5,000 staff and volunteers who work at over 150 locations across Victoria. At the Y, there are opportunities for varied and interesting career paths in a range of areas including: action sports, camping and outdoor education, children's programs, community development, corporate shared services (including digital, finance, HR, IT and marketing), management, recreation and youth services.
Work/life balance
Working for us means you’ll enjoy great work/life balance, as well as a range of benefits that will help you improve your wellbeing and develop as an individual.
We offer generous parental leave entitlements, along with flexible working hours. These measures allow you to vary start and finish times to manage family commitments. Some programs offer employment based on the school calendar. This means you only work during the school term, allowing you to spend time with your family during school holidays.
We value and encourage the culturally diverse nature of our teams. We offer religious and cultural leave, allowing employees to observe cultural or religious days of significance. We also offer community services leave. This leave allows employees who are members of a volunteer organisation to be released from duties without loss of pay to participate in emergency support or community events.
Career development
The Y is dedicated to offering diverse careers with challenging, rewarding work and various opportunities to learn and grow. We have a strong commitment to investing in the training and development of our people. As an employee, you are encouraged to own your role and set new standards for success. With centres and services across Victoria, you can experience different areas of the Y to build a varied and worthwhile career.
Opportunities to help you grow include:
- Secondment positions to other facilities
- Special interest groups and projects
- Both a local and regional approach to succession planning.
You will work in a vibrant and positive environment with colleagues who have a shared passion and will impart their knowledge and experiences on you.
We value our people and the contribution they make to the Y and the community, which is why we're passionate about developing capable people who can reach their full potential.
