YMCA Action Sports runs youth-led skate programs across Australia.
We run skate parks in partnership with local councils, skateboarding lessons and workshops, as well as professional competitions and events.
YMCA Action Sports works with councils to encourage the use of skate parks and sustainably manage an existing public space, supporting the local economy. We aim to support social, mental and physical activity of local communities, with programs designed to engage young young people with alternative sport and recreational activities. We also run programs to improve access and opportunities to participate in skateboarding. Hear from our girls skateboarding participants in this article.
We engage over 250,000 people each year and our events and program framework is sanctioned by Skate Australia Inc., the recognised national sporting organisation for skateboarding.
YMCA manages some of Victoria’s best skate parks, in partnership with Boroondara, Frankston, Knox, and Melbourne councils. We believe skate parks are an important part of our communities, where young people can socialise while being active. We run Frankston Skate Park, Junction Skate & BMX Park, Knox Skate & BMX Park and Riverslide Skate Park.
Our skateparks offer skateboard lessons focused on having fun and getting active. We offer a range of lesson options for every age and ability level, including beginner to advanced private lessons and group lessons. Our lessons are focused on fun and based around building confidence and skills in a safe and supportive environment. Programs in Victoria are supported by the Victorian Skateboard Association.
All Aboard (skateboarding) and scoot sessions are inclusive group skate and scoot workshops, run on behalf of schools or councils across Australia. All Aboard and Scoot sessions are part of a supervised skateboard or scoot program tailored to schools and groups. Sessions can be run as one-off, or we can run multiples as part of a series.
YMCA Action Sports organises and delivers two competition series: Skate Park Leagues (SPL) – Australia’s biggest interconnected skate, scooter and BMX series; and Australian Skateboarding League (ASL) – the national skateboarding competition series for men and women. We also run a variety of events including family fun days and skate park open days.
