Y Discovery Camps Environmental Commitment

The Y Discovery Camps announce 12 actions to reduce environmental impact

The Y Discovery Camps know the environment is one of the biggest issues facing young people. They’ve told us they’re urgently seeking change.

This urgent call has inspired us to take action across our camp network to reduce our environmental impact and do our part in leading the way towards a sustainable planet.

That’s why we’re chasing a carbon neutral experience. We’re on track to reach a 30% reduction in our carbon footprint by 2025 and become carbon neutral by 2030.

To help us achieve our targets, we’ve identified 12 key independent strategic actions to focus on. These 12 actions will result in a significant shift in all areas of our operations.

What are the 12 strategic actions?

  1. Measure and monitor energy consumption
  2. Install solar, hydro and other renewable energy systems
  3. Transition gas appliances to electric
  4. Climate Active Certification
  5. Phase out energy inefficient appliances
  6. Electrify 80% of total energy sources
  7. Develop waste reduction programs
  8. Phase out the use of fossil fuels
  9. Take selected buildings Off the Grid completely
  10. Green education, conservation and enviro programming
  11. Appoint Sustainability Champions
  12. Seek innovative carbon offset purchasing
