On National Tree Day, YMCA Mount Evelyn Discovery Camp hosted a community get together to rejuvenate the natural beauty of the Olinda Creek area.
Dozens of volunteers of all ages helped plant hundreds of native trees and plants. This initiative focused on restoring the local ecosystem and providing habitats for vulnerable species like the Yellow-Bellied Glider, Long-Nosed Bandicoot, and Powerful Owl.
We enjoyed a very successful day re-vegetating some bushland on National Tree Day last Sunday. Kids and adults all joined in the fun planting hundreds of trees and some fun activities. At the Y Mount Evelyn Discovery Camp we love bringing community together to enjoy and give back to our beautiful environment as part of our commitment to a carbon neutral 2030 camp operation. Locals enjoyed various activities that made the event fun for all ages. The day included a BBQ, opportunities for parents and children to explore the wildlife room and participate in interactive games, ensuring that there was plenty of fun and exploration for all.
A local parent said, “It was a really great day getting the kids out and enjoying the outdoors. The camp was a very friendly and fun place to be. The kids loved holding the reptiles in the wildlife room.”
The sense of community was strong, with everyone working towards a shared goal and we looking to making this an annual event.
