Big Summer for Outdoor Pools as Season Wraps
Outdoor pools across the Mount Alexander region have wrapped up a bumper summer season, with more than 20,000 visits recorded across the four pools. A series of over 25 events, alongside exciting programs and initiatives helped drive the surge in attendance, reinforcing the role of these pools as vital community hubs.
From the Fitness in February Lap Swimming Challenge, where Castlemaine’s Adrian completed an impressive 866 laps (43.3km) to take the top prize, to free inflatable party nights, live music events, and even a circus at Newstead & District Swimming Pool, this summer had something for everyone.
A key highlight was the Junior Lifeguard Program, which gave 12-15-year-olds hands-on experience in water safety, CPR, and rescue techniques—building confidence in the next generation of lifesavers. The Y was excited to provide this program free of cost to the community.
YMCA Victoria’s Area Manager Brodie Henderson said the season’s success was a testament to the community’s enthusiasm and the strong partnerships behind the scenes.
It’s been a huge summer for our outdoor pools, with incredible participation and new records across programs and events. These pools are more than just places to swim, they bring people together, provide valuable skills, and keep our communities active and safe. We’re proud to work with Mount Alexander Shire to make them the best they can be for locals and visitors alike. Brodie Henderson, Area Manager YMCA Victoria
Brodie also extended thanks to the community partners who helped make the season such a success, "We couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of our community partners, who have played a huge role in making these events a highlight of our summer season”
With another successful season in the books, the region’s pools continue to play a vital role in keeping communities active, engaged, and connected.
