Victorian Youth Parliament Set to Launch for 2025

Victoria’s future leaders are set to take the stage as the 2025 Victorian Youth Parliament will once again take place from Sunday, 6 July to Friday, 11 July 2025. This year’s program brings together passionate young people from across the state to debate real legislative proposals at Parliament House, showcasing the power of youth-led change.

Run by YMCA Victoria, the Victorian Youth Parliament empowers young people aged 16-25 to develop their leadership skills, engage in democracy, and advocate for issues that matter to them. Since its inception, more than 70 Youth Parliament Bills have influenced state legislation, proving the lasting impact of this program.

This year, 20 teams will present and debate Bills that address some of the most pressing challenges facing young Victorians. From education reform and public transport accessibility to mental health and employment support, their proposals reflect the diverse needs of communities across the state.

Several Bills are expected to generate strong debate, including the Increased Swim Safety Bill 2025 (City of Greater Geelong), the Employment Assistance for Young People Bill 2025 (The Huddle - City of Melbourne) will shine a light on how we can improve access to job opportunities, while the increased Accessibility of Period Products Bill 2025 (Boroondara Youth) will aim to address equity and dignity for women and girls.

Youth Governor, Lily Trethowan, was looking to lead this year’s program, “Youth Parliament is such an important space for young people to speak up and be heard. After being involved for several years, I’ve seen just how powerful these debates can be. I’ve seen how it helps young people grow in confidence and become natural leaders. The issues we bring to the table are real, and the passion behind them is impossible to ignore.”.

The Victorian Youth Parliament is a tremendous opportunity for inspiring young leaders to amplify their voices on the issues that matter most to them with a lasting impact – shaping a better future for all Victorians. Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman
