The team from Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre has spent recent weeks out in the community extending the reach of the centre well beyond its doors.
Working alongside Latrobe City Council teams, staff supported a series of Children’s Week activities, starting with Story Time at the Pool. Preschoolers and their carers gathered on poolside for water themed stories, songs and a gentle introduction to being around the water.
The partnership continued at Traralgon Library, where GRAC lifeguards joined the Latrobe City Libraries team for Story Time sessions.
The team then headed to the Children’s Expo in Morwell with Latrobe Leisure, running games and giveaways and talking with parents about Learn to Swim. For many families it was a first chance to ask questions about lessons, confidence in the water and how to prepare young children for a safer summer.
The approach is similar on the fitness side, with more GRAC staff heading to the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium for the annual Fitness Showcase run in collaboration with Latrobe Leisure. More than 240 people took part across six classes, from HIIT and circuit training to Active Adults, Zumba and Les Mills Body Pump, Body Combat and Body Balance.
The stadium became an extension of GRAC, with instructors leading classes and people getting a feel for what is on offer across Latrobe.
