A new dance-gymnastics squad from Moonee Valley Gymnastics has taken first place in its section at a major Gymnastics Victoria event, marking a strong debut season for the Y-run centre.
Fusion FX, a newly formed program at Moonee Valley Gymnastics, blends dance, callisthenics, acrobatics and floor-based gymnastics with visual effects, which is how Gymnastics Victoria came up with the name. Now delivered at our centre, the Fusion FX group competed at the Gymnastics for All (GFA) Carnival in November and finished first in its section in its first year of competition.
The group have recently been selected by Gymnastics Victoria to showcase their performance at the 2026 GV Gala Awards Night in February.
Senior Centre Coordinator Ayla Steer said their achievement, has inspired and motivated other students to join fusion. Bring a new sense of excitement and team work to the little club.
We only started Fusion FX this year, so for the group to go to their first GFA Carnival in November and come first in their section was really exciting.
The GFA Carnival, run by Gymnastics Victoria, brings together clubs from across the state in a range of recreational and performance-based categories. Athletes represent their home club and competing in graded levels that are judged by Gymnastics Victoria accredited officials.
Moonee Valley Gymnastics, managed by YMCA Victoria, has also been building its reputation as a competition host, running both internal YMCA events and Gymnastics Victoria lead Gym Star competitions. Local gymnasts regularly compete in GymStar and other recreational competitions, gaining experience in front of judges and home crowds.
“Our gymnasts compete phenomenally and they score well, and we have now had quite a few competitions here at Moonee Valley, which is really exciting for our small club,” Ms Steer said.
A new mural commissioned by council on the back of the building has further raised the centre’s profile. Visible from the local park, high school and footy club, families and visiting clubs have been using it as a backdrop for team and competition photos.
Moonee Valley Gymnastics offers recreational gymnastics, competitive streams and introductory programs for children and adults from across the Moonee Valley area.
Gemma Sammut, Head Fusion Fx Gymnastics Coach said, "I could not be prouder of our wonderful gymnasts, who recently competed at the State Netball and Hockey Centre for the Gymnastics Victoria GFA Carnival. Our team delivered an outstanding performance, earning an impressive first-place finish - such a special achievement. It was their very first time competing in front of an audience and against many seasoned athletes. As a small recreational community club, this was a huge milestone and an exciting debut for Fusion FX. I can't wait for next year to be even bigger and better as we continue to grow and shine together."
