YMCA Victoria set to welcome community back to Bendigo East Swimming Pool

YMCA Victoria is excited to manage Bendigo East Swimming Pool for the next two summer seasons in partnership with the City of Greater Bendigo, with the heated 50-metre pool opening from mid to late October.

Initially the early season swimming will welcome morning and afternoon lap swimmers back to the 50-metre pool. Once the summer season starts in late November, we will open all facilities to swimmers, families, schools, clubs and local community groups back for another summer, with aquatic activities including learn to swim programs.

Following the reopening, the Y will establish a new Community Reference Group to provide an ongoing opportunity for regular pool users, families, schools, clubs, community organisations and local residents to share their perspectives and help inform and shape future programs, activities and community events.

YMCA Victoria Area Manager Brodie Henderson said preparations were well underway for a successful summer season and thanked the Bendigo East Committee for their role in operating and growing the swim community over many years.

“Bendigo East Swimming Pool is a valued community facility with a proud history and strong local support.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming swimmers back for summer and building on the important role the pool plays in keeping people active, connected and confident in the water.

"The reopening will create further seasonal jobs for locals in Bendigo and we can continue our tradition of supporting local people.

“Our team is committed to working closely with the City of Greater Bendigo, the Bendigo East Swimming Club and local pool users to support a great season and the future of the pool.”

The new management arrangement builds on our evolving partnership with the City and a rich history serving the Bendigo community, where it manages the Peter Krenz Leisure Centre and a range of other services.

The reopening will also create seasonal employment opportunities for local residents, with roles in aquatics and customer service available ahead of the summer season.

Local knowledge and experience will continue to play an important role in the future of Bendigo East Swimming Pool.
