Anton Ilchenko is swimming for a safer future.
In August 2026, Anton Ilchenko will take on one of the world’s toughest endurance challenges – crossing the English Channel solo.
This is more than a swim. It’s a mission to make sure children can feel safe and confident in the water.
As a father to his young son Ashton, this cause is deeply personal. With Ashton attending Kingswim Wantirna, Anton plans to raise money for the Y Open Doors program which helps more children access swimming lessons at the Y and Kingswim.
Anton's employer, Kapitol, will match every dollar raised up to $5,000. Your donation goes twice as far — give $50 and $100 goes to Y Open Doors.

Meet Anton
Not his first time in deep water
Anton Ilchenko is a former national-level open water swimmer who has spent decades pushing the limits of endurance. His track record is extraordinary.
- Record holder: First person ever to complete a 60km open water swim from New Norfolk to Bruny Island — 15 hours 23 minutes
- Keppel Island Swim (20km) — completed twice, placed 3rd both times
- Cliff to Bridge (15km) — 2x winner, 1x runner-up across three completions
- 3x Ironman Triathlon — best time 9h 20m
- 4x Half Ironman — best time 4h 30m
Even with his experience, the English Channel swim is a challenge like no other.
With strong tides, unpredictable conditions and water temperatures as low as 15°C, it is one of the most demanding open water swims in the world.
It’s as much a mental challenge as it is physical.
Every child deserves to feel safe in the water
In partnership with Y Open Doors
Anton’s swim is about more than performance – it’s about purpose.
Supported by Kapitol, Anton aims to improve access to swim education and water safety for children by raising funds for the Y Open Doors program. Y Open Doors subsidises access to swimming lessons so that more children can benefit.
This goal reflects Anton’s values, Kapitol’s values and the Y’s values. Together we want to create more opportunities for young people while inspiring and supporting our communities.

Why your donation matters
Every child deserves to feel safe and confident in the water. Yet, nearly 40% of children leave primary school without knowing how to swim.
Drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death among Australian children. Increasing access to swim education is one of the most effective ways to prevent it.
At just $20 a lesson, every dollar counts to help the Y teach these vital skills to families who cannot afford them.
Your support won't just fund swimming lessons. It will help save lives.
Donate to Anton
Donate today to support Anton’s English Channel swim and help promote the importance of swimming lessons.
Your donation will go directly to Y Open Doors to fund:
- Learn-to-swim programs for Victorian children
- Water safety education in schools and communities
- Access for disadvantaged families who can't otherwise afford lessons
Every dollar raised brings us closer to a safer future for children in Victoria.
